Multilogin X vs. Octo Browser: Comparing Two Powerful
Anti-Detect Browsers

SEPTEMBER 25, 2024 PRIVACY & ANONYMITY COMPARISON
Octo Browser vs AdsPower
Every anti-detect browser claims to be the best; we are no exception. However, we prefer to back up our statements with facts. That’s why we run a series of comparisons that thoroughly examine the features of various browsers. In previous articles, we compared Octo Browser with Dolphin{anty}, GoLogin, and AdsPower, hoping these comparisons can help you make informed decisions.

Today we compare Octo Browser with Multilogin X to determine which browser offers more features and better anonymity. Read on to find out where each browser excels and where they fall short compared to each other.

A Brief Overview of Multilogin X

Multilogin has been on the market for more than 9 years and positions itself as the first browser in the anti-detection industry. Along with standard account management and automation features, it offers premium-class residential proxies and built-in AI.

A year ago, an updated version of the browser, Multilogin X, was released, which has since become the main browser version. However, the previous version, Multilogin 6, is still available, offering limited functionality but allowing for the creation of mobile profiles. Multilogin X operates through a web interface but requires the installation of a special agent on your device. This agent can be installed on Windows, macOS, and Linux, and profiles cannot be launched without synchronizing the agent with the web version of the browser. However, synchronization interruptions can occur without explicit notifications, and profiles won’t run unless they are synchronized.

A unique feature in Multilogin X that we have not yet seen in other anti-detect browsers is AI-powered commands for automating work with profiles. There is a hint box above the input field with quick commands, but no examples on how to construct these queries are available in the documentation. If a command is entered incorrectly, there’s no indication of what exactly went wrong, making it unclear whether the request was executed at all. Prompts must be detailed, but complex multi-step AI commands are not yet supported in Multilogin X, so creating profiles with advanced fingerprint settings using this function is not currently possible.

Multilogin X does not offer a free subscription plan; instead, there are only four subscription plans available, with payment options either monthly or annually. Teamwork starts with the Team plan, and the maximum discount is 25% when paying annually. Unlike Octo Browser, Multilogin X does not have a referral program, but it does have an affiliate program. To join it, you need to fill out a form and wait for a response from Multilogin support.

Now let’s examine the differences between Multilogin and Octo Browser in detail.

Interface

The main distinctive point of Multilogin X is that it operates through a browser interface. Similar to most anti-detect browsers, the primary workspace is the profile list. However, the available profile details are minimal: only the name, storage location (cloud or device), group, creation date, and modification date. Profiles can be sorted by these parameters. A critical drawback is the lack of proxy information, which is only available in the profile settings. The profile list itself cannot be customized: adding or removing fields is not possible.

In Octo Browser the profile list can be customized with necessary parameters, and all elements in the list are clickable. Profiles can be sorted by name, launch date, creation date, or task status. The profile description where you can leave notes, tags, tasks, and cookies, as well as, most importantly, the connected proxies, are immediately visible. You can also add columns for profile runtime, its size, creation date, launch time, and display its ID.

Profiles in Multilogin X can be created using the "New profile" and "Quick profile" buttons, the latter used to create one-time profiles. New profiles are saved in the profile list for future use, while one-time quick profiles (up to 10 simultaneously) are automatically deleted after closing and are not saved. These are often used for web scraping, but 10 one-time profiles may not be enough for professional data collection.

Multilogin allows organizing profiles into groups. Profiles can be added to a group in bulk or one at a time, and access can be configured for different team members. New groups can be created in a separate menu or when creating a profile. For teamwork convenience Multilogin offers the "Projects" section where you can add team members or join someone else's project, enabling work with multiple teams simultaneously.

In Octo Browser, the function of groups is handled by tags. One profile can have multiple tags, access to which can be set individually for different team members. Tags can be assigned directly in the list, renamed, and color-coded for easy visual navigation.

Multilogin X features a separate help button that links to documentation or opens a widget for tech support requests. Unlike Octo Browser, there is no FAQ section in the chat, so even for common questions you must submit a request and wait for a response. For quicker help, you can also join the Telegram chat.

Overall, profile management in the Multilogin X interface is limited in functionality, likely due to its browser-based nature. The key differences between Octo and Multilogin interfaces are summarized below:

Profile Settings

In Multilogin X you can create and configure one-time quick profiles and new profiles.
The common customizable settings include:
  • choosing an OS: macOS, Windows, or Linux;
  • selecting the browser kernel: Mimic X or Stealthfox;
  • adding start pages: up to 3 for one-time profiles, up to 5 for new profiles.
  • connecting a proxy.
A one-time quick profile is created with a default fingerprint, and up to 10 such profiles can be created and launched simultaneously.

A new profile offers more detailed customization options. You can specify the profile name, leave notes, and choose the storage location: locally on your device (but without an ability to share such profiles with the team), or in the cloud. Additional settings include screen resolution, spoofing options for device fingerprint parameters (media devices, WebGPU, WebGL, Canvas, AudioContext, and font data), and configuring the user agent: you can set it using the Navigator parameter, spoof it or use the user agent based on the real device.

However, bookmarks cannot be added, and extensions can only be added in an already created and launched browser. There is also no common list of saved extensions, as found in Octo.
In Octo Browser, you can create and configure quick profiles, new profiles, and profile templates.

A quick profile is created in a single click, using the operating system you need and default parameters, ready to go. After creation it will appear in the profile list and can be edited if needed.

A new profile offers more customization options. When creating a new profile, you can:
  • assign a name and icon;
  • leave notes in the description;
  • set up a new proxy or choose one from the Proxy Manager;
  • assign already existing tags or create new ones;
  • add up to 20 start pages and up to 100 bookmarks;
  • configure data storage for the profile;
  • edit fingerprint parameters in detail;
  • import cookies;
  • protect the profile with a password;
  • install extensions.
Octo Browser offers more configurable hardware-based fingerprint settings than Multilogin X. For instance, you can select the CPU core count, RAM size, and GPU model. You can also configure hardware noise in detail and specify the type and number of media devices.

After creating a profile, you can activate the Cookie Robot for it. This feature makes the profile appear more trustworthy to any website and reduces the risk of blocks. To start the Cookie Robot, you need to specify a list of URLs it should visit. The browsing history and cookies will be automatically saved in the profile.

Profile Templates allow you to create a set of profile parameters and apply it when creating new or quick profiles. Templates are created similarly to new profiles and saved in their own Templates section where you can set their status as active or inactive.

Kernel Update Speed

Promptly updating the browser kernel is critical for anti-detect browsers. In Multilogin X, you can choose between two kernels: Mimic X, which mimics Chrome, and Stealthfox, which mimics Firefox. If the kernel is outdated, the profile won’t launch, and the anti-detect browser will prompt you to download the latest kernel version.
In Multilogin X, it’s impossible to view the user-agent data while creating a profile. The kernel version, as well as the user-agent information, only appears after the profile has been created, unlike in Octo Browser where it’s visible during profile creation.

Multilogin X does not show user agent when creating a profile
The kernel update speed can be seen in Multilogin’s release notes, but Octo Browser typically updates faster. For example, Octo Browser updated the Chromium kernel to version 129 on September 23, 2024, while Multilogin X’s current kernel version is still 128.

Actions with profiles and bulk actions

Multilogin X offers a basic set of profile actions: editing, renaming, cookie import, sending to trash, cloning, and organizing profiles into groups. Exporting a profile isn’t possible; you can only export its cookies.

Bulk action options are limited: after selecting multiple profiles, you can assign them to groups, launch, stop, or delete them.
Octo Browser offers more actions for both individual and multiple profiles. A single profile can be edited, assigned tasks, have cookies imported or a Cookie Robot launched, and be assigned one or more tags. You can also clone, transfer, export in .octo format, delete, or view the activity history of the profile.

Octo Browser offers more bulk operations too: you can assign tags to multiple profiles, set up proxies, check the proxy status or change its IP address, delete profiles, install extensions, transfer profiles, set tasks, or export them. You can also launch or stop multiple profiles at once.
Here are a few more actions and features available in Octo but missing in Multilogin X:
  • Adding profiles in bulk;
  • Import and export of profiles;
  • Video stream spoofing, a useful feature for verification and passing KYC.

Connecting proxies

In Multilogin X, a proxy is connected to a profile either during the profile creation or when editing it. Unlike in Octo Browser, you can’t change the proxy directly from the profile list. However, you can use the existing built-in proxy traffic. Each subscription plan comes with 1 to 10 GB of residential proxy traffic, with the option to purchase more.
Octo Browser offers a more flexible approach to storing and configuring proxies in profiles. For this Octo uses a dedicated feature within the browser, the Proxy Manager. There you can:
  • save new proxies;
  • add proxies one at a time or in bulk;
  • check their functionality;
  • see how many profiles are using each proxy;
  • copy proxy details;
  • delete proxies.

In Octo Browser, you can connect a proxy to a profile in several ways:
  • directly from the profile list;
  • during profile creation;
  • by saving the proxies in a template. When creating profiles from such a template, proxies will be randomly selected from the pre-set list.
Before launching a profile, you can test the connection directly from the profile list, view available proxy information, and even copy the proxy data in one click.

Teamwork

In Multilogin X, starting from the Team subscription, you can invite team members to a project, and the number of participants is unlimited. The project has four roles: "owner," "manager," "user," and "launcher." The "owner" has access to all functions, while the access rights for "managers," "users," and "launchers" vary, and, depending on the role, include profiles, groups, notes, the trash, and the ability to add or remove users.

In Octo Browser, you can add team members starting with the Team subscription or higher. Access permissions are defined not by roles but by the participants’ specific functions and abilities. You can specify which functions and tags the new team member will have access to in the settings.
By default, a team member gets access to:
  • proxies,
  • templates,
  • extensions.
The master account can regulate only the permissions for performing actions with them.
As for profiles, access rights can be highly customized. By default, all possible profile operations are enabled, but unnecessary ones can be disabled, such as:
  • creating,
  • editing,
  • deleting,
  • transferring,
  • cloning,
  • setting a password.

Profile Data Security

Multilogin X, like Octo Browser, is based in Europe and must comply with GDPR regulations to ensure the safety of user data. GDPR ensures that user data is deleted three months after a subscription ends. Multilogin X also promises security by hashing passwords so that they are not transmitted as plain text. The platform uses AES encryption for account data and encrypts data before storing it in the cloud. However, there are no additional protections for profiles stored locally. Multilogin X accounts do not support two-factor authentication (2FA).

In Octo Browser, data storage is implemented similarly, preventing unauthorized access to profile information. Additionally, you can set passwords for profiles, which protects them not only from being launched by other team members but also from potential attackers. Even if someone gains access to your device, they won't be able to retrieve profile data without the password. Another security measure that Octo Browser offers is two-factor authentication. We recommend setting up 2FA to ensure your accounts are well protected.

Technical Support

Multilogin X offers 24/7 support via a dedicated widget. Support is also available by email or on Telegram, and can be offered in five languages: English, Vietnamese, Russian, Chinese, and Portuguese. Multilogin also provides detailed product and API documentation, video tutorials, and guides.

Octo Browser similarly offers detailed documentation with video instructions and guides, and users can access support using a widget on the website and in the browser; a Telegram bot is also available. Additionally, active Octo communities exist speaking both English and Russian, where users can discuss issues they might be experiencing and suggest potential browser improvements.

Subscriptions and Pricing

Multilogin X offers only four subscription plans. The cheapest monthly subscription costs €29 per month and includes 10 browser profiles and 1 GB of proxy traffic. The most expensive listed subscription plan is Team, which costs €159 per month and includes 300 browser profiles and 10 GB of proxy traffic, along with other basic resources. A higher-tier and more expensive Custom subscription is also available, but its terms and resources are negotiated individually.

In Octo Browser, the cheapest subscription likewise costs €29 for one month and comes with 10 browser profiles, but offers more features and settings. The Team plan in Octo is just €10 more expensive, yet it offers 50 more profiles, templates, profile transfer options, and other features that Multilogin X lacks entirely.

Conclusion

Octo Browser and Multilogin X are both powerful anti-detect browsers designed to help users maintain online anonymity. Multilogin X stands out with its built-in residential proxies and AI automation options, yet it has only a limited set of features for working with profiles.

On the other hand, Octo Browser offers more interface customization options, including the Proxy Manager, and more efficient and convenient teamwork options. Octo provides maximum profile security, updates its browser kernel faster, and offers more customizable fingerprint parameters. Moreover, Octo Browser comes with more flexible subscription options, making it the preferred choice for users who value efficiency, convenience, comfort, and security when working with accounts.
